Super Summer Snapshot Scavenger Hunt Winners

We had 7 teams (and 1 unofficial) submit their creative pictures. 2 teams turned in all 20 items, but ultimately were tripped up by the request for an ice cream truck. We called in the experts. Their verdict was unanimous: A van is not a truck.

So the winners: Geezer's team. Phil, Marcia, Barb, Missy and Nick

The one that made us say "Awwwwwwww"
Team: Mike and Lauren

The most creative. Footbridge

We're Done

We have had such a great time with our Hunt. We we're not even sure anyone would want to play. Before we started, I asked Leisa what she thought and she said "Definitely".

Thank you all.

Church, with a visible bell

Team: Erin
Location: Dwtn Campbell, 1st street

I was getting hassled about getting my church with a visible bell picture done because there is a church with a visible bell across the street from my work. I did not want to use that unless I had too because I wanted something a little harder. So I found this church a few blocks down. Hehe.

And Then There Were...more than Three (WHEW)

Team: Geezer
Member: Missy PB
Location: South Hill, Spokane WA

While at one of the Swimmer's house picking up a batch of dill pickles that Barb & fellow swim Mom made the day before, the neighbor was out with his pooches so we imposed upon his neighborliness.

Big THANKS to our Hosts Dave & Cathy. It's been great fun and adventure and a FANTASTIC way to keep in touch with our Big Family!!! :)

Up against the wall

Posted by: Team Geezer
Photo tags: Barb Pep, Nick Pep and the Geezer himself
Photo: Taken by TheMarcia in Veradale, WA

I thought that the flash should have fired when we took this picture last night. You can see that it is quite grainy because of the low light (it's a quantum mechanics thing).

Something else is unique about this photo too. See if you can figure out what it is.

Bo Jangles, I think!

Team Mahaffie with our last picture to post from Manteca, CA. Yipeee!

We had a great time with the Super Summer Snapshot Scavenger Hunt!
Thanks Dave and Cathy and Dusty.

Clowning around again

Team Mahaffie-Manteca

This is our friend Mason, with Taylor, who took the challenge to be a clown for children's birthday parties this summer. He learned to make balloon animals for the kids as well.

Obscure? Porta-Potty

Team Mahaffie

Taylor and I were taking a walk in Manteca and found this porta potty locked up behind a chain link fence of an abandoned home. We were glad we didn't have to go-Good luck using it! The house was hit by lighting several years ago and after an extensive fire was condemed.

Roller Coaster

Team Mahaffie-Great America-Santa Clara, CA

Mark and I were on our way to see Sweet Baby K for her birthday and thought we had better take advantage of Great America's drop off parking lot to get this picture. This is as close to a roller coaster as we got this summer.

2 weeks to go!

As we get closer to the end of our hunt, we have a something we would like to point out. As we are looking at the photos, some pictures have not "quite" met the mark. You may want to go back and review the list and make sure photos are consistent with the list. Any iffy photos may be subject to scrutiny and will make a difference of who wins :-)

Remember all photos in by October 1 and 5:00 pm.

Love all around

Rhymes with Purple

Team Member: Cathy
Santa Cruz, CA

We were looking for a clown with a broken arm, walking 4 dogs in a field that had a scarecrow, but had no luck. Settled on this tastefully painted purple house instead.

Team member: Cathy
Mission Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz, CA

We were on the hunt for a purple house Dave had seen in Santa Cruz. We found a parking spot on a side street, got out of the car and low and behold we were parked across the street from Mission Santa Cruz. Well, we got our church with a visible bell too.

Cathy's Clown

team: M & N
location: Watsonville, CA
team member: Nancy

We've been searching for the perfect clown - but found only these guys!  This was at Watsonville's Strawberry Festival, a cool over-cast day.  There weren't many people at the festival which really surprised us. For more fun go check out the Everly Brothers here!

A Few Good Stickers

Team Mahaffie-Lanell
As we were cruising the older neighborhoods of Sacramento looking for the purple house I spotted this van....we didn't quite get a legal u turn in this time. The other side of the van looked just like this one.

Fraternizing with the Enemy

Team Member: Erin
Team Member: Mike & Lauren
Location: Griffith Observatory & Park, LA, California

I went down to see Mike for the Labor Day weekend where we had many adventures and opportunities to take pics for the hunt! I posted the pics following this one. I had a lot of fun visiting him and Lauren. This pic shows Mike's new city! Maybe mine in the future?

Organic Lemonades and Banjos

Team Member: Lauren (lemonade)
Location: Hollywood, LA, California Farmers Market
Team Member: Erin (banjo)

We went to the Farmers market were there is good lemonade and good music!

I do NOT like clowns

Team Member: Mike and Team Member: Erin
Location: Santa Monica Pier, California

We got two different clowns! But can you find the matching third clown?

The West Coaster

Team Member: Erin
Location: Santa Monica Pier, California

This coaster was scary! Not only were you on the pier that is up over the ocean, but also you feel like you are going to fall out during the turn.

Competing Water Falls found in a secret hike!

Team Member: Erin & Other Team Member: Mike
Location: LA, California, Pasadena Hills

There is this little area deep into the hills where there is a waterfall that falls into a little pool of water, where Mike's pic is taken, and then that pool of water waterfalls into the bigger pool of water, Erin is taking a pic with the lower one. In the pool of water the lower waterfall falls in is a place to jump off into which is approx. 15ft. If you keep going down the water there is another place to jump into the pool that's approx. 45ft.!!!!! I didn't jump off the big one but i jumped off the 15ft. one!

Keep them doggies movin, Rawhide

Team Mahaffie-
Lanell found these friends in Manteca, what a pack of doggies! The Great Dane is 3 year old Carla and she was not happy her mom was taking our picture. She finally settled down for this shot while the labs were happy to just kick back for a minute. They said they usually roller blade with the Dane pulling them. Yikes!

www.songsforicecreamtrucks.com

Team Mahaffie
We live on a very long court in an obscure Manteca, CA neighborhood where no ice cream truck "has ever gone before". Really, we have heard only 2 or 3 ice cream trucks in our court in the 20 years we have lived here so when this truck came by the other day we all jumped up and ran for the camera and the door to stop him. We quickly found some money for Taylor to get a fudgesicle. Check out the website for ice cream truck melodies.

Generations.....you can pass on a blessing!

Team Mahaffie
Louise is herself :),mom, grandma and great grandma and that makes 4 generations...yipeee!
Mark, Lanell, Leisa, Eddie, Kaylyn (1), Dan, Carrie, Taylor (3 almost 4), Cameron (1).

Remind me of this with every decision
Generations will reap what I sow
I can pass on a blessing
To those I will never know.

You'll look sweet, upon the seat, Of a bicycle built for two.

Team Mahaffie-Dan and Carrie in Manteca CA
We have been telling our friends about the snapshot scavenger hunt fun and our friend Mark Keasling told us about his 1970's Classic Schwinn 5 speed tandem bike with drum brakes that he purchased at a garage sale for the bargin price of $100. The tires have rotted since it's last outing but what fun to have!

Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls

Team Mahaffie
Dan and Carrie took this waterfall pic at Mt. Lassen Park, CA while camping. There was still snow up there along with bubbling hot mud.

Sun Dial Bridge

Team Mahaffie
Dan and Carrie were on a short vacation driving through Redding CA and decided to visit the Sun Dial (foot) Bridge. Besides walking across the bridge you can rent segues and "drive" across. It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Purple Mansion

Team Mahaffie found this purple home with purple stairs in Sacramento. We just cruised the old neighborhood asking the postman, slow passing cars, and a cyclist, before we found it. Our last ditch effort was to go one more block to catch the UPS guy but the house appeared out of nowhere before we got to him. One (legal) U turn and we snapped this pic.

Tandem-penta cycle

They didn't stop at bicycles built for two back in the day. Gives new meaning to "fat-tire". Bicycles were all the rage around the turn of the last century. Unfortunately the automobile got going before everyone was a rider, or our traffic would have been much calmer. :^)

One More Month

We have updated the standings. It looks like we have a couple of teams out in front. Keep on hunting!!! Dusty has become a part of the official judging team. I hope he is not going to favor his new best friend Auntie Barb.

Banjos & Baseball

Team: Geezers
Member: Melissa

There seems to be a theme here. Banjos in front of the Giant's game and now Banjos in front of the Indian's game.

Melissa & Her Friends Kaylee & Jessie went to the Spokane Indian's Baseball Game @ Avista Stadium in Spokane, WA. Their Major League Affiliate is currently the Texas Rangers. (They Lost)

Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad

Team: Cathy and Dave
Location: Vasona Park, Los Gatos

We took a ride on the Train for 2 dollars a piece. It has a steam engine and this is the water tower they use to fill it up. It could quite possibly be the best train ride west of the Rockies.

fee fie fiddly-eye oh...

strumming on my ole banjo!

Team: M&N
location: Danville, CA
in photo: Nancy & Janice Johnson

Just by chance my friend Janice brought along her banjo to the "house crop" last weekend.  A bunch of us gals regularly gather to stamp, scrap and chat!

Janice is a super player and I may convince her to come down this way and play around our fire pit one evening!  Her banjo traveled along with her, her husband and their dog across the nation and back for several months this year!

p.s. thanks to Sonja who snapped this picture for me!

Scary scarecrow....really it's there!

Carrie and Dan spotted this scarecrow behind a barbed wire fence while they were on a camping trip to Mt Lassen Park. They weren't going to chance hopping the fence for a close-up. Carrie says "Trust me it was there."

Soccer Moms and mini vans...

team: M & N
location: Hardy Ave. Campbell, CA
member: Nancy

Just enough bumper stickers; keeping Tahoe blue, saving the turtles, vans, soccer balls,  bigfoot and more!  We didn't have to look far to find the quintessential soccer mom car - right across the street!  Gives us a little insight to our neighbor!

Day Tripper

team:  M & N
location: downtown Campbell
member: Nancy
A cool cruiser tandem, just the thing for a day trip!  This sweet ride is at Threads, we spotted it on our compute back and forth to work so today we took an extra long round-about walk to the Farmer's Market to check it out.  With a basket it would be great to go to the Farmer's Market on this!

Top Gun

Team: Dana & Chris B.
Team member: Dana
Location: Great America, Santa Clara, Ca
I had to go pick up Melissa from her team Great America Day, so I took advantage of the roller coaster photo op.

Peace, Love and Bumper Stickers

Team: Dana & Chris B.

This car was spotted in front of Stacks on the walk back to mom and dads house after the farmers market, thanks to dad for giving us the heads up :)

Fresh Lemonade 25 cents

One of Taylor's friends worked a lemonade stand while her mom had a garage sale. Taylor was very happy because she bought lemonade and a Barbie that day.
